“All Might and Majesty” is a collection of mostly hymn-based organ music performed by young and very gifted organist, Brenda Heck Portman. Dr. Portman has received numerous awards in organ competitions and composition contests, spanning a decade. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Wheaton College, a master’s degree in church music and organ performance from Northwestern University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree (2016) in organ performance at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music.
This recording was made on the 3-manual, 1992 Schantz organ at College Church in Wheaton IL. The works chosen are considered chorale preludes and illustrate a variety of harmonic and contrapuntal styles and melodic development. The one non-hymn based piece is a four-movement Wedding Suite useful for festive occasions as well as for service music. All of the works on this recording are published.
